New hope for nonverbal kids with autism: simple vocal games may unlock speech

NCT ID NCT06875843

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

About 30% of children with autism barely talk or don't talk at all, even after years of therapy. This study tests a new approach that uses playful, responsive interactions to encourage more sounds and words in children aged 2 to 5 who use fewer than 20 words. Researchers will compare different strategies to see which works best for increasing both the quantity and quality of vocalizations.
