Gum disease showdown: probiotics vs. mouthwash in diabetic patients

NCT ID NCT07489924

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether a probiotic (Lactobacillus reuteri) is as good as a standard mouthwash (chlorhexidine) at reducing harmful bacteria in people with both gum disease and type 2 diabetes. Twenty participants will use one of the treatments for 30 days. The goal is to see if the probiotic offers a gentler alternative for controlling gum infection.
