First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving probiotics (good bacteria) can prevent necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a serious gut disease, in preterm babies born before 35 weeks. About 196 infants will receive either probiotics or a placebo, and researchers will track how many develop NEC. The goal is to find a simple, safe way to protect these vulnerable newborns.
