Summary

This trial tests whether a daily probiotic supplement containing Bifidobacterium longum BL21 can improve sperm quality in men aged 40 to 59. Over 8 weeks, participants take either the probiotic or a placebo, and researchers measure changes in sperm motility, hormone levels, and other markers. The goal is to see if this simple supplement could support male fertility in middle age.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
probiotic product containing Bifidobacterium longum subsp. longum BL21
What this could lead to
If effective, this probiotic could offer a simple, non-prescription option to support sperm health in middle-aged men.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Probiotics are generally safe, but individual responses can vary.
