Could friendly bacteria protect fragile preemies from deadly gut disease?
NCT ID NCT07233382
Summary
This study aims to see if giving probiotics (live beneficial bacteria) to premature babies can prevent them from developing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a serious and sometimes fatal gut disease. Researchers will enroll 196 premature infants born before 35 weeks and randomly give them either probiotics or a placebo. The main goal is to compare how many babies in each group develop NEC.
