First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving a probiotic supplement (Lactobacillus reuteri) to nursing mothers could change the bacteria in their breast milk and help establish healthy gut bacteria in their newborns. 70 mothers and their babies took part. The researchers measured bacterial levels in milk and baby stool samples before and after 30 days of supplementation.
