First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tested whether a probiotic (Bifidobacterium longum) can help young children with functional constipation. 84 infants and toddlers were given either the probiotic, a common laxative (lactulose), or both for 28 days. Researchers tracked bowel movements, stool consistency, and discomfort, and also analyzed gut bacteria changes. The goal was to see if the probiotic improves symptoms and how it affects the gut microbiome.
