First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tested whether a probiotic (Bifidobacterium longum) could ease constipation in 84 infants and toddlers. For 28 days, children received either the probiotic, a common laxative (lactulose), or both. Researchers tracked bowel movements, stool consistency, and discomfort, and also checked changes in gut bacteria. The goal was to see if the probiotic could improve symptoms and how it might work.
