New hope for FSGS patients: preemptive rituximab may stop kidney disease return

NCT ID NCT03763643

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This early-phase study tested whether giving a combination of plasmapheresis (a blood-filtering procedure) and the drug rituximab before or at the time of kidney transplant could prevent focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) from recurring. The study enrolled 21 children and adults aged 1 to 65 who had a confirmed diagnosis of primary FSGS or minimal change disease and a history of nephrotic syndrome. The main goal was to see if this approach was feasible, meaning whether patients could complete all the steps from recruitment to follow-up.
