Simple tube tweak may spare ICU patients painful mouth sores

NCT ID NCT07390162

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether moving a breathing tube (endotracheal tube) in the mouth every 4 hours instead of every 8 hours can prevent sores on the lips and inside the mouth. About 230 adults in intensive care who need a breathing tube will take part. Researchers will compare the two time intervals to see which one leads to fewer mouth injuries over a 14-day period.
