New surgery aims to stop arm swelling in breast cancer patients

Summary
This study tests a procedure called Immediate Lymphatic Reconstruction (ILR) done during breast cancer surgery to prevent lymphedema—a painful arm swelling. About 98 women at high risk for lymphedema will be randomly assigned to receive ILR or standard surgery. Researchers will track who develops swelling and compare quality of life over two years.
