New lung imaging method aims to cut breathing risks after weight-loss surgery

NCT ID NCT07207772

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a special lung imaging tool (EIT) to set the breathing machine during surgery can prevent lung complications like pneumonia or respiratory failure. About 118 adults having laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery will be randomly assigned to either EIT-guided settings or standard care. The goal is to see if personalized ventilation reduces lung problems within 72 hours after surgery.
