Tiny connectors, big difference: protecting fragile premature babies from deadly infections
NCT ID NCT06414174
Summary
This study tested two types of medical connectors used on central lines in very premature babies to see which one better prevents dangerous bloodstream infections. Researchers observed 60 infants weighing less than 3.3 pounds for two weeks after their central lines were placed. They compared infection rates, hospital stays, and survival between babies using split septum connectors versus mechanical valve connectors.
