Tiny fighters: study tests best way to stop deadly infections in premature babies

NCT ID NCT06414174

Summary

This study aimed to find out which of two types of medical connectors is better at preventing serious bloodstream infections in very small, premature babies. Researchers observed 60 infants weighing less than 3.3 pounds for two weeks after they received a central line. They compared infection rates, hospital stay length, and other outcomes between babies using a split septum connector and those using a mechanical valve connector.
