New hope for HIV-positive moms: simpler drug combo may protect babies
NCT ID NCT00424814
First seen Apr 13, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested a simpler HIV medication combination in pregnant women to prevent passing the virus to their babies. About 100 women received a two-drug regimen (lopinavir/ritonavir) and 50 received a three-drug regimen (adding zidovudine and lamivudine). The goal was to see if the simpler combo could keep virus levels low enough to protect the baby, while reducing side effects from standard treatments.
