First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether taking acyclovir daily can prevent herpes simplex outbreaks in people with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis) who often get herpes. About 62 participants will receive either acyclovir or a placebo for 12 months, then be monitored for another 12 months. The goal is to see if the drug reduces outbreaks and is safe for long-term use.
