Massive trial aims to wipe out Post-Surgery eye infections

NCT ID NCT03244072

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a common antibiotic (moxifloxacin) directly into the eye at the end of cataract surgery can prevent endophthalmitis, a rare but serious infection that can cause blindness. Researchers plan to enroll 60,000 adults with cataracts who are not allergic to the antibiotic. Participants will receive the injection and be monitored afterward for any signs of infection.
