First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding intermittent pneumatic compression (a device that squeezes the legs) to elastic stockings reduces blood clots in intensive care patients who are at high risk of bleeding. 408 adults in ICUs were randomly assigned to get either the compression device plus stockings or stockings alone. The main goal was to see if the combination lowered the number of clots in the legs or lungs within the first week.
