First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tested two low-cost care packages to prevent severe anemia in 2,500 pregnant women in Zanzibar, Tanzania. One group received standard care (malaria treatment, deworming, iron, and folic acid), while the other got extra multivitamins and a second deworming dose. The goal was to see which approach better prevents severe anemia and reduces the need for blood transfusions.
