First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a 20-second hug from a family member right before surgery can lower a patient's anxiety and pain afterward. About 160 adults having planned surgery will either hug or not hug their family. Researchers will measure anxiety levels before surgery and pain scores up to 6 hours after. The goal is to see if this simple, drug-free comfort can make surgery less stressful.
