Single pill before surgery could slash painkiller need

NCT ID NCT04122196

Summary

This study tested whether giving a single dose of the medication pregabalin right before kidney stone surgery could help manage pain afterwards. Researchers wanted to see if this approach reduced patients' need for strong opioid painkillers following the procedure. The trial involved 118 adults having a specific type of kidney stone surgery where a temporary tube (stent) is placed. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either pregabalin or a placebo pill before their operation, and neither they nor the doctors knew which one they got.
