Simple neck scan could warn doctors of dangerous blood pressure drops in elderly surgery patients
NCT ID NCT07286422
Summary
This study aims to see if a quick, non-invasive ultrasound scan of blood vessels in the neck can predict a common and serious side effect of spinal anesthesia in older patients. Researchers will measure the size of a vein and an artery in the neck before surgery to see if the ratio can forecast a sudden drop in blood pressure. The goal is to give doctors an early warning so they can prevent this complication in vulnerable elderly patients undergoing lower body surgery.
