Math model may predict slipped disc return after surgery

NCT ID NCT04254250

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tested whether a mathematical model could predict if a herniated disc would come back within 3 years after surgery. 386 adults with a single-level lumbar disc herniation had their recurrence risk estimated before a standard microdiscectomy. They were then followed every 6 months to see if the disc herniated again and how their symptoms changed. The goal was to improve surgical planning, not to test a new treatment.
