First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study aims to find proteins in the blood that signal early heart changes in women with preeclampsia, even before symptoms appear. Researchers will also use heart ultrasounds to track how the heart changes during pregnancy. The goal is to better predict future heart problems for mothers. About 172 pregnant women will participate, providing blood samples and undergoing two heart ultrasounds during their pregnancy.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test to detect early heart problems in women with preeclampsia, helping doctors intervene sooner.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find clear markers, and results may not apply to all women.
