First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether a prebiotic (a type of fiber that feeds good gut bacteria) can reduce inflammation and improve thinking and memory in people with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Researchers will enroll 60 adults who are stable on antipsychotic medication. The goal is to see if the prebiotic raises butyrate levels in the blood and boosts cognitive test scores.
