Could a simple drink before surgery cut hospital stays?

NCT ID NCT04962776

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding nitrates (found in foods like beets) to a standard pre-surgery carbohydrate drink helps women recover faster after open gynecological surgery. About 90 women aged 18-60 will be randomly assigned to receive either the combination drink or carbohydrate drink alone before their operation. The main goal is to see if the nitrate-enriched drink shortens the time patients spend in the hospital.
