Which neck surgery hurts least? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT06803732
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will compare pain levels after three different surgical methods for removing lymph nodes in the neck (lateral neck dissection) in people with thyroid cancer. The three methods are robotic surgery, endoscopic surgery, and traditional open surgery. Researchers will measure pain on the day of surgery, and again at 1 month and 3 months after surgery, using a standard 0-to-10 pain scale. The goal is to find out which approach causes the least pain and discomfort.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help surgeons choose the least painful surgical approach for lateral neck dissection in thyroid cancer patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not directly improve outcomes for participants and results may not apply to all patients.

Who is studied
Patients with FNA proven differentiated thyroid cancer and metastatic lateral lymph nodes, underwent lateral neck dissection via robotic, endoscopic or open approach. Patients were well informed about the potential benefits and risks of robotic, endoscopic and open approach. Patient consented for us to use perioperative data.
