New drug combo may let some CML patients stop treatment

Summary
This study tests whether a strong drug (ponatinib) given first for 6 months, followed by a standard drug (imatinib), can help adults with newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia reach a deep remission. The goal is to see if patients can then safely stop all treatment. About 170 people aged 18 to 65 are taking part.
