First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study is tracking up to 5,000 adults with achalasia who undergo a procedure called POEM. POEM uses a scope through the mouth to cut the tight muscle at the bottom of the esophagus, helping food and liquid pass more easily. The goal is to see if the procedure improves swallowing symptoms and quality of life without needing open surgery.
