First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study is tracking how well a non-surgical procedure called POEM works for people with achalasia, a condition that makes it hard to swallow. POEM uses an endoscope to cut the tight muscle at the bottom of the esophagus without any cuts on the body. The goal is to improve symptoms like trouble swallowing, chest pain, and weight loss. Up to 5,000 adults with achalasia will be followed to see if their symptom scores improve.
