New 20-Strain pneumonia vaccine tested in chinese seniors
NCT ID NCT07019909
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a new 20-valent pneumococcal vaccine (20vPnC) against an existing 13-valent vaccine in 400 adults aged 50 and older in China who had never received a pneumococcal vaccine. The goal was to check safety and immune response. Results will help decide if the broader-coverage vaccine is safe enough for larger trials.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (20vPnC) and 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (13vPnC)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a new vaccine that protects against more strains of pneumococcal disease, potentially reducing infections in older adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 1 trial with only 400 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The main focus is safety, not yet proof of effectiveness.
