Summary

This study tests whether two plant extracts, Cissus quadrangularis and Dichrostachys glomerata, can help overweight and obese adults control their appetite and weight. The extracts are thought to work by boosting a natural hormone (GLP-1) that signals fullness and by blocking an enzyme (DPP-4) that breaks it down. Researchers will measure changes in GLP-1 levels, DPP-4 activity, food intake, body weight, and other health markers over time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Cissus quadrangularis extract (CQR-300®) and Dichrostachys glomerata extract (Dyglomera®)
What this could lead to
If successful, these plant extracts could offer a natural option to help manage weight and improve metabolic health by mimicking some effects of existing GLP-1 drugs.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial (Phase 1/2) with only 248 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The extracts are not yet proven to work in humans, and side effects are still being studied.
