Could taking blood thinners only when needed be safer after AF ablation?

NCT ID NCT06216769

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two approaches to taking blood thinners after a procedure for atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). One group takes blood thinners every day as usual. The other group takes them only when a small heart monitor detects that the irregular rhythm has returned. The goal is to see if the 'as needed' approach is just as effective at preventing strokes and causes fewer bleeding problems. The study involves 400 adults aged 19-89 who are scheduled for AF ablation and already take daily blood thinners.
