First seen Mar 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study is developing and testing a new way to set recovery goals for children in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The method, based on the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), focuses on what matters most to the child and their family. Researchers will first gather expert opinions, then test the approach with a small group of 5 families and clinicians to see if it is practical and helpful.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better, more personalized care plans for children in the pediatric ICU, improving their recovery experience.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 5 participants. It is not designed to prove that the method improves health outcomes, only that it can be implemented.
