Chemo-Free hope: new drug combo targets HER2 breast cancer
NCT ID NCT04733118
First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether a combination of targeted drugs (trastuzumab, pertuzumab, and T-DM1) can treat HER2-positive early breast cancer without standard chemotherapy. About 393 patients will receive these drugs before surgery to see if the cancer disappears completely. The goal is to find a less toxic treatment option that still works well.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Trastuzumab, pertuzumab, and T-DM1 (drugs)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a chemotherapy-free treatment option for some HER2-positive early breast cancer patients, reducing side effects while maintaining effectiveness.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with no control group, so results are preliminary. The strategy may not work for all patients, and side effects from the targeted drugs are still possible.
