Can a Pharmacist's guidance with a glucose monitor improve diabetes control?

NCT ID NCT06572306

First seen Apr 20, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether having a pharmacist oversee continuous glucose monitoring (using a FreeStyle Libre device) can improve blood sugar control and health behaviors in people with type 2 diabetes. Forty participants will use the monitor for 12 weeks, and their results will be compared to a historical group that only used standard finger-stick testing. The study aims to see changes in A1c levels and other glucose measures.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

FreeStyle Libre 2/Libre 3+ Continuous Glucose Monitor (device)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that pharmacist-led continuous glucose monitoring helps people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar and adopt healthier habits.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It compares to a historical group, not a randomized control, which limits reliability.
