Pre-surgery fitness test may forecast cancer recovery

NCT ID NCT00493688

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring a patient's energy reserve (fitness) before major cancer surgery can help predict how well they recover. Researchers will use a special exercise test to measure gas exchange and see if it relates to complications after surgery. The goal is to better understand surgical risk, not to provide a new treatment. About 200 adults with abdominal or pelvic cancer will take part.
