Dental implant infection surgery: does smoothing the implant surface help?

NCT ID NCT04052373

First seen May 04, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study compares two surgical treatments for peri-implantitis, a serious gum infection around dental implants. About 35 adults with at least two infected implants will receive open-flap cleaning on all implants, but some implants will also have their rough surface smoothed (implantoplasty). The goal is to see if smoothing reduces bleeding and infection better than cleaning alone.
