Pulse oximeter trick could speed up nerve block checks
NCT ID NCT07507227
First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study looked at 80 adults having leg surgery to see if a simple, non-invasive measure called the perfusion index (PI) can quickly tell if a nerve block is working. Currently, doctors rely on patients to say when they lose feeling, which can be slow and subjective. The researchers measured PI at several time points after the block and compared it to standard tests. The goal was to find an earlier, more objective way to confirm block success.
