Pulse oximeter may replace pinpricks to test nerve block success
NCT ID NCT07507227
First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looked at 80 adults having leg surgery to see if a simple, non-invasive measure called the perfusion index (PI) can quickly tell if a nerve block is working. PI is measured by a pulse oximeter and reflects blood flow changes caused by the block. Researchers compared PI readings with traditional tests like feeling and movement checks. The goal was to find an earlier, more objective way to confirm block success.
