New pain treatment could replace risky nerve blocks

NCT ID NCT07273006

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests if a treatment called PENS (percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) can work as well as nerve blocks for chronic low back pain. PENS uses tiny needles with mild electrical pulses to reduce pain, without the risks of steroids or large needles. About 82 adults with long-term back pain will try PENS to see if it cuts pain by at least half. If successful, it could offer a safer, cheaper option for managing chronic pain.
