Could a simple electrical needle replace pain blocks for back pain?

NCT ID NCT07273006

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests if a treatment called PENS (percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) can work as well as nerve blocks for chronic low back pain. About 82 adults with long-term back pain will receive either PENS or a standard nerve block. The goal is to see if PENS can reduce pain by at least half right after treatment, offering a safer and cheaper option without drugs or large needles.
