Gallbladder removal may make gut more sensitive to colonoscopy prep
NCT ID NCT07439640
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study looks at how a common bowel-cleansing laxative (PEG) used before colonoscopy changes the gut bacteria in people who have had their gallbladder removed. Researchers will compare 10 people with prior gallbladder removal to 10 people with an intact gallbladder. Stool samples are collected before and up to 6 months after the colonoscopy to see if the gallbladder-removal group has a harder time recovering their normal gut bacteria.
