Gallbladder removal may make gut bacteria more sensitive to colonoscopy prep

NCT ID NCT07439640

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at how a common bowel-cleansing laxative (PEG) changes the gut microbiome in people who have had their gallbladder removed compared to those with a gallbladder. About 20 adults will provide stool samples before and up to 6 months after colonoscopy. The goal is to see if gallbladder removal makes the gut more vulnerable to long-term bacterial disruption from the laxative.
