Can immunotherapy plus hormones spare the womb in early endometrial cancer?
NCT ID NCT06549855
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial is investigating whether combining an immunotherapy drug (a PD-1 inhibitor like sintilimab or pembrolizumab) with progesterone therapy can help young women with early-stage, mismatch repair-deficient (MMRd) endometrial cancer achieve complete remission while preserving their fertility. The study enrolls women aged 18-45 with stage IA, grade 1-2 endometrioid adenocarcinoma who strongly desire to avoid hysterectomy. Participants receive the PD-1 inhibitor intravenously every three weeks along with daily oral progesterone, and researchers will measure how many achieve complete remission, how long it takes, and subsequent pregnancy and live birth rates.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Sintilimab or Pembrolizumab combined with medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) or megestrol acetate (MA)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this combination could offer a fertility-sparing treatment option for young women with early-stage MMRd endometrial cancer, potentially allowing them to achieve remission without hysterectomy and preserve their ability to have children.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small early-stage trial (10 participants), so results may not be generalizable. The combination may not improve remission rates, and there are risks of side effects from immunotherapy and hormonal therapy, including immune-related adverse events.
