Proton beam offers new hope for breast cancer recurrence without full breast removal

NCT ID NCT06954623

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests a second round of targeted radiation using proton beams for women whose breast cancer has returned after prior radiation and breast-conserving surgery. Instead of removing the whole breast, doctors will give 15 small daily doses of proton radiation to just the affected area. The main goal is to see if this approach keeps skin side effects low, while also checking how well it controls the tumor and affects quality of life. About 20 women with small, node-negative recurrences will take part.
