Paramedics on the frontline: early sepsis care tested in major trial
NCT ID NCT03068741
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tested whether paramedics can start treating sepsis—a life-threatening infection that causes organ failure—right at the patient's home or in the ambulance, instead of waiting until arrival at the hospital. Over 2,000 adults with signs of sepsis (infection, fever, and low blood pressure) took part. The goal was to see if giving early antibiotics and fluids by paramedics improves survival compared to standard care.
