New study aims to cut opioid use after back surgery

NCT ID NCT07480278

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks given before lumbar microdiscectomy (back surgery) to see which one controls pain better. 80 adults aged 18-65 will be randomly assigned to receive either a modified thoracolumbar interfascial plane block or a quadro-iliac plane block. The main goal is to measure how much opioid pain medication they need in the 48 hours after surgery, with a focus on improving recovery and reducing side effects.
