Nerve block may beat standard pain relief for gallbladder surgery
NCT ID NCT07193472
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tests whether a nerve block called serratus intercostal plane block (SIPB) works better than the usual port infiltration for pain after laparoscopic gallbladder removal. 128 adults having this surgery will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal is to see which approach leads to less pain and faster recovery in the first 24 hours.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
serratus intercostal plane block (a nerve block procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a specific nerve block provides better pain relief and recovery than the standard method for gallbladder surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 128 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The nerve block is a procedure and carries typical risks like bleeding or infection.
