New approach to surgical pain relief shows promise for high-risk patients
NCT ID NCT00620490
Summary
This study tested a different way to manage pain after chest surgery for patients who cannot receive the standard epidural pain relief. Researchers compared a local anesthetic delivered through a catheter placed during surgery against a placebo, with all patients also receiving morphine through a patient-controlled pump. The goal was to see if this approach reduced pain, decreased morphine use, and caused fewer side effects like nausea and sedation.
